Inside Out Community Arts
Their mission:
"Through the arts, Inside Out Community Arts promotes healthy interaction among diverse at-risk and underserved Los Angeles middle-school youth. Led by specially trained teams of professional artists and high school age mentors, Inside Out bridges cultural, geographic, socioeconomic and differently-abled boundaries to support youth in creating and presenting topical theater and art, empowering them to make positive choices as individuals and members of the greater community."
John and I believe in their mission to give underprivileged kids a chance to learn music, drama and art from local artists. This is exactly what they need, to express themselves in a safe and nurturing environment. Nothing is more powerful than a fully expressed human being. We will donate 10% of our revenue from omartorrez.com to Inside Out Community Arts for each $100 we take in. Thank-you for helping us help out others.
Peace,
Omar Torrez and John Wakefield
"Inside Out Community Arts was founded in 1996 by actor/educator Camille Ameen and actor/writer/director Jonathan Zeichner. They sought to build on the success of the School Project, an after-school arts program Zeichner implemented in 1993 while artistic director of Imagination Workshop, an organization working with mental health and homeless communities. The genesis of the School Project was a response by artists to the uprisings that took place on the streets of Los Angeles following the Rodney King verdicts of 1992. The objective: give at-risk kids a source of personal power that does not rely on violence or money.
The organization continues to evolve and in 2002 we co-founded the Venice Center for Peace with Justice and the Arts, increasing the scope of our mission and our ability to serve Community through the Arts. Inside Out is a living organism… a story in progress… and you can be a part of it."
